, in the house, the rosa parks bill that came to fruition today was sponsored by congressman jesse jackson jr. of illinois. mr. jackson, like mr. kerry, was not around to see the unveiling of the rosa parks statue, and that's because jesse jackson jr. resign his seat in congress amid first health worries and financial worries and ultimately last week plead guilty to misappropriating campaign funds for personal use. because jesse jackson resigned his seat, in a matter of weeks somebody new is going to be there to replace him. late last night we found out who that person is likely to be. last night democrats in the second congressional district in illinois nominated robin kelly as their candidate for that seattle. they picked her by a big margin, too. she got 52% of the vote compared with 24% for her nearest challenger, former congresswoman debbie halvorson. again, because the second district is such a deep, deep blue district, whoever wins the democratic primary is pretty much expected to win the general in a couple of weeks and to become the nation's newest member of congress. former congress

recognizes the gentlewoman from texas, ms. jackson lee, for five minutes. ms. jackson lee: i thank the speaker very much, and we had an historic occasion last evening, but i rise to comment on a number of issues, and i first want to acknowledge and pay tribute to a texan that was buried yesterday in a tragic incident, chris kyle, a navy seal, who had served this country, loved this country and came back to his family and children and took a cause to help serve troubled veterans. and as he was doing so, along with his friend, chad, one of those troubled veterans shot both he and his friend. what a tragedy, and i think it is important to note the thousands who mourned him and the per session that took him to his burial ground yesterday and to say thank you for serving this nation but coming home to care about those suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. that leads me to bring up this whole question of sequester. in my own city of houston, i was able to some four years ago establish the first posttraumatic stress disorder center in a hospital that was not a veterans hospital. t

under way in chicago right now for the seat formerly held by jesse jackson. one of the candidates running for that seat dropped out of the race after new york city mayor michael bloomberg got involved in the campaign. bloomberg's pac got another money behind another candidate robbie kelly. hutchinson had support from the nra. how significant, is it, do you think for the mayor of new york city to get involved in a race in chicago, illinois? what does that tell us? >> it's extraordinarily significant but i have to say it's about time. if you've got millions of dollars flowing through washington and municipalities throughout the country from the nra, the pro-gun control hobby has been hobbled a number of years. great advocacy organizations but the dollars just don't match up, so it's a good thing, i think, to point out record of some of these candidates in this case. the difficulty here is, you know, this race is so crowded, so crowded. that david halverson who has a 100% rating by this nra, she could run away with this race because there are too many candidates in this race. >> you'
